Can a Medical Assistant apply to an animal hospital?

I am soon to be a full-time student so I am looking for Part-time work. I currently work Per Diem as Medical Asst. (family practice) at a local clinic. I am wondering if I can use my "transferable skills" to apply to animal health? I am considering applying as a kennel tech. to my local vet. Do I have a chance? I am 27 years old with AAS in Applied Science & AS in Social Science (Human Service).
