Do used car sales have to abide by minimum wage laws?

i was recently let go from a job for multiple reasons, however i had been approached by the general manager that stated if anyone asks me what i work i need to tell them im a per diem employee so they dont get in trouble for minimum wage laws. this took place in NH and i want to know if there are any actions i can take against these people
